On August 7, 2025, the European Commission provided answers to questions related to the implementation of the TPO ban. TPO, full name (2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl) diphenylphosphine oxide, is a common photoinitiator.
On September 1, 2025, with the implementation of the revised EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, the use of TPO in cosmetics was prohibited. Cosmetics containing TPO could no longer be placed on the EU market, and the existing inventory products could not continue to be sold.
